Multi-Tiered System of Supports/ Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (MTSS/PBIS) C.A.R.S. The 138M C.A.R.S. matrix was developed by a school team with the support of school based BCBAs and a district positive behavior coach. The C.A.R.S. matrix creates a common language of expectations for students across all school, community and work site environments. Teachers, parents, support staff, office staff, and related service providers speak using the language and examples of the C.A.R.S. matrix. The C.A.R.S. matrix is also incorporated into social emotional lessons and instructional activities. Visuals, technology, and direct instruction support student comprehension of the C.A.R.S. matrix so students take ownership of the language and expectations. The outcome is a school wide belief system made up of clear expectations for all stakeholders.
